Mary Jane Caverly was born in Barrington, Strafford County, New Hampshire on 15 July 1863, daughter of John Stickney and Nancy Jane (Ricker) Caverly. She married Alonzo Stockbridge Piper, son of Joshua and Orra (Laporte) Piper, on 21 April 1891 in Conway, Rockingham, N.H. She died in Riverside, California 7 September 1926 and was buried in Riverside Cemetery in Riverside, Calif.1

Mary and Alonzo had one daughter, Orra Mae.2

Mary was a schoolteacher in Barrington before marrying Alonzo.3
